Determination of Peat Thickness Using Low Frequency Ground Penetrating Radar

Dave presented DAM's work at the New Advances in Geophysics conference at the Geological Society in London. The works were carried out last year using a rapidly deployed GPR survey over a large peatland area to determine the thickness of peat prior to platforming works.

The project was a great success and allowed peat volumes to be estimated and a strategy for the enabling works to be developed. The platforms were created by stripping peat and winning sands and gravels from other areas of the site to build up the platform. The peat was then placed in cells according to a Peatland Management Strategy.
